Marlon Barton was almost 18-months old before he was identified with autism pictured bottom right with his mom Pearile Barton, sister Mary Barton and father Larry Barton . As a sweet faced baby Marlon made everyone smile. But now that he is full grown, no one knows quite what to do with him. Barton is 6 foot 2 and 283 pounds and acutely autistic, one of thousands of people diagnosed as children who are now entering adulthood. "He scares people, " said his mother, Pearlie Barton, who cares for him around he clock. "Being large, African American and autistic does not work in his favor." Autism was a relatively rare condition when Barton was born, and youngsters like him did not get the kinds of therapeutic help that they do now. 1 in 150 children are diagnosed and society has no idea what to do with them when they become adults. Judges’ comments for the category

1st-This story was clearly the winner. Nice story, with good moments, and photographed well. Could have edited a little more tightly.
2nd-Some decent images, but photographer could have helped the story by getting closer to the subjects, and giving the reader a stronger emotional attachment to the story.
3rd-There are some very nice images in here, the opening image was not one of them. Better editing would have greatly helped this story place better.
