In February of 2008 an F-4 tornado would travel over 122 mile through Arkansas and eventually claim 12 lives. It claimed its first 4 lives in the small town of Atkins. During a year of rebuilding the tornado would claim 2 more lives in the small town. Families struggled to carry on with their daily lives through insurance and health battles during the rebuilding.

Guest console family members at the gravesite of Dorothy Vieira, 78, during her burial last Wednesday morning north of Atkins. Vieira was hospitalized for five months from injuries she suffered during February's tornado before making the choice to have herself taken off life support.
